The Library of Babel is a web-based interpretation of Jorge Luis Borges’ story, which imagines the universe as an infinite library containing every possible combination of 25 symbols. While this guarantees that all knowledge exists somewhere, it also ensures that most of it is unreadable, leading to despair and obsession among its inhabitants.

This project translates this paradox into a digital format. The site mimics the formal structure of books through chapter numbers and titles, referencing the Library’s rigid architecture. But the chapter titles are arbitrary, each drawn from a random word in its paragraph, making it impossible to navigate or summarize the content at a glance. The result is a digital space that echoes the story’s tension between order and chaos.
